Company Environmental Policy
Timber is one of man's oldest allies, providing warmth and shelter since the earliest days. As a naturally renewable resource it is the most environmentally friendly raw material available today.
We are proud to be involved in the timber trade, but are not complacent about the impact of the company's operations. Only by striving to minimise any environmental impact will we ensure a future that benefits the company, customers, stakeholders and the public. Our Environmental Mission Statement clearly shows that we take these issues seriously:
Environmental Mission Statement
- The Company recognises that it has a duty to base its operations upon well-managed forests and to reduce, wherever possible, the impact of its operations upon the local environment of which they are a part.
- The Company makes strenuous efforts to meet and, where possible, exceed H. M. Government procurement guidelines.
- The Company accepts that verification, by one of the accredited, independent, certification contractors, is a preferred means of proving that wood goods actually possess the environmentally friendly attributes claimed for them.
- The Company submits itself to independent scrutiny through its efforts to maintain Environmental Chain of Custody Certification, within the TRADA-Trak scheme, to ensure that an increasing proportion of its timber products can be independently verified as coming from well-managed forests.
Chain of Custody Certification
Environmental Chain of Custody Certification is the "independent scrutiny" referred to in our Environmental Mission Statement and has been achieved by every Montague L. Meyer branch that stocks Panel Products, through BM-TRADA's TRADA-Trak scheme. While the presence of an environmental label, such as FSC, on a product indicates that a minimum proportion of the wood it contains comes from well-managed forests, independently certified, any subsequent owner of the product requires their own Chain of Custody certificate to describe the goods as environmentally certified to a purchaser. A Chain of Custody certificate is evidence that a business has installed management systems that enable an environmentally certified product to be tracked back to its source thus proving that the product actually possesses the environmental credentials claimed for it. Only possession of valid Chain of Custody certificates entitle a business to use the environmental trademarks and logos in promoting or describing environmentally certified products. Montague L. Meyer operates under certificate no. TT-CoC-1670 for FSC certified products and BMT-PEFC-0057 for PEFC and CSA certified products.
